First, lets re-live some puppy memories (any excuse!)
I love how she had to stand in her dish to eat because she was SO TINY (1 and a half pounds).
And my all time favorite puppy photo. How could you not love this thing?
Now more spoiling pictures come in to play.
Needless to say, we treat her like our child. Nate always says he never knew he wanted a little dog until we got her. Now, when he is home, those two are inseparable. Seriously, she follows him around like a lost puppy dog. The latter may be true but she's certainly not lost.
Tonight, I made her some of her favorite treats. I love to cook, so of course I make dog treats too. These are called Flower Power Cookies (They have sunflower seeds in them).
This recipe is adapted from The Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook.
Flower Power Cookies
1 c. wheat flour (use oat flour if your dog may have a wheat allergy)
1 c. brown rice flower
3/4 c unsalted hulled sunflower seeds
1/2 c. oat bran
1/4 c. honey
3 Tbsp honey
1 flax egg (1 Tbsp ground flax seeds, mixed with 3 Tbsp water, mixed and soaked for a few minutes)
1/2 c. water
Preheat oven to 350. Combine all ingredients and mix until dough forms. Roll into small balls. Place on cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. Slightly flatten with fork. Bake 20-25 minutes. Let cook completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
We always keep some in the fridge and store the rest in the freezer. There are no preservatives in them, so they only last for a week or so. Note this canning jar:
I am currently blogging, while my foot is soaking in epsom salts. Right before I filled this with her treats, I picked up another empty canning jar and dropped it on the floor... and I was barefoot. Of course, a piece of shattered glass ended up in my foot. Let's hope this post has taken long enough that I can remove the glass now. Otherwise, you'll be hearing from me a lot more. Soaking my foot and blogging.
Oh...my...GOODNESS, Mariah - she is ADORABLE!!! :) And baking doggy treats for her? How cute. She is way spoiled, but nothing wrong with that! How is your foot?
ReplyDeletehaha...just a little spoiled. I have another blog post in the works that will prove that even more when I post it. My foot is fine now- it took a few hours of soaking and some careful work with a needle to get it out! Thanks for asking :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good mommy you are!!! Lilly is a lucky little girl . Can't wait to try your recipes
