Birds

I love taking pictures of birds.

So I was super excited when I saw this outside my classroom window, this week.

Cute baby Robins!

My kids loved that I could take close pictures of them by "zooming in", a concept they were very interested in.

After a few days I noticed one of the birds was brave enough to venture out on a branch.

I watched him stretch his wings, wobble back and forth several times, and hop to a few different branches.

The other one seemed perfectly content staying in the nest... safe and sound.

The next day, I looked out the window, and both birds were gone. I kept looking for this:

But they didn't return. They must have learned to fly. My class wrote stories about the baby robins, and made predictions about what they might be doing now. Some guessed that the mother was teaching them how to find their own food. We now have several bird books that have been checked out from the media center, in my classroom. I love that this helped spark their interest in birds!
